A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, involves the removal of excess skin to lift and tighten the breasts. When a woman would also like to enhance the size of her breasts, the procedure can be combined with breast augmentation surgery. Breast lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia. After the procedure, patients awaken without a recollection of the surgery.
During your initial consultation with Dr. Pilcher, you will have the opportunity to discuss your cosmetic goals in detail. Dr. Pilcher will also help you understand the different types of breast lift surgery, and make suggestions based on your unique needs.
We understand that a breast lift is not for everybody; if you would benefit from another procedure, or if you are not a surgical candidate for any reason, Dr. Pilcher may suggest that you seek alternatives. If you choose to undergo a breast lift at our practice serving patients from the San Antonio area, you can rest assured that your procedure will be carried out with your safety and satisfaction as our highest priorities.
Each breast lift is similar in that skin is removed, breast tissue is lifted, the nipple is repositioned, and the remaining skin is reattached. There are, however, a number of different ways the procedure can be carried out.
During standard breast lift surgery, an incision is made from the breast crease, up the breast, and around the nipple. Because of the shape of the incision, this is sometimes known as the "anchor" technique.
As a less invasive option than the standard breast lift, peri-areolar mastopexy or vertical mastopexy, involves an incision around the aroela only or with a vertical limb commonly referred to as a "lollipop." A peri-areolar or vertical mastopexy usually will suffice.
While each breast lift technique has the potential to provide exceptional results, certain factors will lead our staff to recommend one over the other. When a larger amount of skin is to be removed, as is typically the case for larger breasts, the standard breast lift is often the most appropriate choice. To lift smaller breasts, a doughnut mastopexy usually will suffice.
We perform breast lifts for those in the San Antonio, Texas area with the highest level of care. Our breast lift surgeon would be pleased to welcome you to our family of patients.
