Tummy Tuck - San Antonio, Texas
The battle of the bulge is a daily fight for many people. Excess skin and fat around the abdomen, combined with weak underlying musculature, can create a displeasing body image. Fortunately, there is hope for those looking to tighten and tone their abdomens. A tummy tuck at the San Antonio practice of Accent Plastic Surgery, P.A. can help reduce the amount of excess skin and fat, while toning the underlying muscle tissue. Our illustrious plastic surgeon, Sheryl Pilcher, has helped many patents beat the bulge, tighten their abdominal regions, and redefine their body's contours. During a personal consultation, Dr. Pilcher will perform an examination and determine whether you are indeed a viable tummy tuck candidate.
Tummy Tuck Candidates
While many people are overweight, with overly large abdomens, the tummy tuck procedure is not intended as a form of weight loss. A tummy tuck is intended for individuals with minor, excess abdominal fat and tissue. You may want to consider a tummy tuck at our San Antonio practice if you identify with one or more of the following issues:
- Excess skin and fat around the abdomen
- The muscles of the abdomen have been separated and weakened
- A protruding abdomen
- Left with excess skin and fat following pregnancy
- An abdomen that is disproportionate with the rest of your body
- Concentrated areas of fatty tissue in the abdomen
- Left with excess skin and fat following massive weight loss
- As you have aged, your abdomen and the underlying muscles have deteriorated, weakened, and begun to sag
Tummy Tuck Procedure
The tummy tuck is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, utilizing local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Once the patient has been anesthetized, Dr. Pilcher makes an incision from hip to hip, slightly above the pubic bone. A subsequent incision is made around the navel to free it from the surrounding skin. After the incisions have been made, Dr. Pilcher detaches the skin from the abdominal wall, revealing the underlying musculature. The muscles are tightened using sutures, and any excess skin and fat are removed; liposuction can be used in conjunction with a tummy tuck if large amounts of fat need to be removed. The belly button is then repositioned and sutured in place. Once in place, the skin is stretched taught, and the incisions are closed, creating tighter skin in the process. Often a compression dressing is applied for recovery. During recovery, excess fluid may drain, which is to be expected, and is actually beneficial to the recovery process. The entire tummy tuck procedure usually takes between one and five hours, with recovery at home requiring one to two weeks.
