Plastic Surgery after Weight Loss: Targeting the Thighs

A woman smooths out her thighHere at Accent Plastic Surgery, we believe in carefully customizing each surgery to the needs of the patient. People throughout the greater San Antonio area have come to us with their various body sculpting needs and questions about different procedures. In fact, because so many people are losing weight through bariatric surgery and other means, after weight loss surgery is becoming more popular to tighten skin and remove stretch marks.

Let's look at the thigh lift right now and how it can benefit you following a substantial reduction in your body mass.

What is a thigh lift?

Also known as a thighplasty, a thigh lift refers to a surgery that removes the loose skin and stretch marks that appear around the thigh area. That refers to the inner thighs, the middle portion of the thigh, as well as some of the upper thigh and hip area (i.e., saddlebags).

Why is a thigh lift a good idea after weight loss?

When a person puts on weight, his or her skin will stretch as a way of accommodating the added girth. As a person loses weight, the skin can shrink back a little bit, yet following substantial weight loss, the skin will only be able to shrink back around the slimmer frame so much. This is normal and just the nature of skin laxity and skin cells.

Exercise and creams won't be able to tighten your skin and improve your overall frame. The only way to get rid of these stretch marks and the excess skin is to undergo a body contouring surgery.

Types of Thigh Lift Surgery

There are different kinds of thigh lift surgeries that can be performed depending on your body sculpting and skin tightening needs.

  • Bilateral Thigh Lift: The bilateral thigh lift is performed in order to address sagging and drooping of the middle and outer parts of the thighs. During the surgery, an incision is made along the upper portion of the thigh generally along the area where the lower part of a bathing suit is located.
  • Inner Thigh Lift: The inner thigh lift, if you haven't already guess from the name, targets the inner thighs. During this kind of surgery, an incision is made at the juncture where the thigh meets the pubic region.
  • Medial Thigh Lift: The medial thigh lift targets the upper inner thighs closest to the pubic region. During this form of thigh lift, an incision is made in the groin area, extending back along the crease of the buttocks.

No matter what kind of thigh lift surgery is performed, the procedure will involve a little bit of liposuction to remove any leftover pockets of fat. Loose skin is then removed and the remaining skin is pulled tighter to improve overall contour and appearance. We will work conservatively to make sure that incisions remain as small as possible and well-hidden.

Which kind of thigh lift is right for me?

The best kind of thigh lift surgery for you and your needs will depend on the nature of your body contour. We can assess these matters with you during your consultation at the practice.

Other Options to Consider for Advanced Body Sculpting

In addition to issues related to the thighs, there are many other body contouring and skin tightening surgeries to keep in mind if you have lost a considerable amount of weight, such as a tummy tuck, a breast reduction or male breast reduction, and an arm lift. We will be sure to design a total body lift specifically for you and your needs.
