Non-surgical Crow’s Feet Treatments

By Sheryl Pilcher on November 10, 2014

Middle-aged woman with hands folded, smiling broadly yet showing no signs of crow’s feet thanks to skin care treatmentsCrow’s feet, the small but conspicuous wrinkles that branch out from the outer corners of the eyes, are often among the first signs of aging that a person experiences. Fortunately, there are numerous non-surgical methods of treating crow’s feet, including BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. At Accent Plastic Surgery, P.A. in San Antonio, crow’s feet treatment allows our patients to rejuvenate their faces dramatically without having to commit to more invasive surgical procedures. Patients benefit from results that look entirely natural and that can last for months.

If you are beginning to show signs of aging on your face, we encourage you to meet with Dr. Sheryl Pilcher today to discuss your facial rejuvenation options during a confidential, one-on-one consultation.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

For more than a decade, doctors have been using BOTOX® Cosmetic off-label to treat crow’s feet with excellent results. Finally, in 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration officially approved BOTOX® Cosmetic for the treatment of crow’s feet, clinically known as lateral canthal lines.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe form of the toxin botulinum toxin type A. When strategically injected into the muscles responsible for wrinkles, it temporarily prevents those muscles from contracting, usually for a period of between four and six months. This causes the skin to relax and the wrinkles - in this case, the crow’s feet - to be less visible. As the effects of the BOTOX® injections wear off, the wrinkles will begin to reappear, at which point the treatment can safely be administered once again with equally excellent results.

At present, BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only injectable treatment to have gained FDA approval for the treatment of crow’s feet.

Chemical Peels

For patients who are just beginning to experience signs of wrinkles at the corners of the eyes, a chemical peel may help to turn back the clock and refresh their facial skin. A chemical peel involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin. This solution removes the superficial layer of old, damaged skin to reveal the smoother, more youthful underlying layer. While a chemical peel will not eliminate deeper wrinkles, it will improve the appearance of more superficial wrinkles, especially for patients with lighter-toned skin.
