Some patients in their sixties approach Dr. Pilcher wondering whether their window for achieving elegant, refined, natural-looking results might have passed given their age. Dr. Pilcher’s response is, invariably, no. While there is no plastic surgery procedure that can make someone in his or her sixties appear to be 25 again, patients in their sixties can certainly take years off of their appearance when they turn to an experienced plastic surgeon with an artistic eye such as Dr. Pilcher. If you are considering plastic surgery in your 60s, a consultation at our San Antonio, TX plastic surgery practice will provide you with all the information you need to make confident, educated decisions about how to proceed.

What Are the Unique Needs of a Patient in His or Her 60s?
Patients in their 60s tend to have similar aesthetic needs and goals to patients in any other age group. They want to look younger and feel better about their appearance, by and large. However, while no two patients in their 60s are exactly alike, it is safe to state that, in general, patients in their 60s should have different expectations for their results than patients in their 30s. Patients in their 60s will have less elastic skin, more deeply set folds and wrinkles, and a more pronounced loss of volume.
This does not mean, of course, that patients in their 60s cannot achieve outstanding results through plastic surgery. In fact, some of the most dramatic transformations can be accomplished on such patients. Procedures such as full facelift surgery, upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), and brow lift are often ideally suited to patients in their 60s. These patients may not emerge looking 20 again, but they can take a decade or more off of their appearance, which is profound. These facial plastic surgery procedures can also be combined with body contouring procedures such as liposuction and abdominoplasty to thoroughly rejuvenate the figure. Realistically, a 65-year-old patient can emerge from surgery looking somewhere between 50 and 55, depending on his or her lifestyle, diet, and exercise routine.
As stated above, no two patients are the same, regardless of their ages. Dr. Pilcher customizes each procedure to the unique needs and goals of the individual to ensure the best possible results, whether that patient is 65, 45, or 25.
