Breast Augmentation Revision to Get Bigger Implants

By Sheryl Pilcher on November 05, 2017

Bigger Breast ImplantWhen a patient gets breast implants, there's often a major deliberation about the right size. Sometimes a patient gets breast implants that are too small, which can be the source of disappointment. While we always strive to get breast augmentation right the first time around at our San Antonio plastic surgery center, there are a variety of reasons why someone would consider getting a second breast enlargement performed.

With this in mind, we want to consider the idea of getting another breast augmentation done in order to get bigger breast implants. The procedure can be quite effective.

Regret Over Brest Augmentation: Implants Too Small

While we often hear about patients having regrets over breast implants that are too large, the reverse is true as well. Some patients were too conservative with their breast implant decision initially and would prefer to have larger breast implants later in life. Getting larger breast implant may better complement the patient's frame, and may also allow a patient to really achieve all of their aesthetic goals.

Whether this decision is made not long after the initial breast augmentation surgery or years later in life, a breast augmentation revision can help.

About Breast Augmentation Revision

Breast augmentation revision refers to a secondary/corrective surgery. It is, in essence, another breast augmentation procedure. During the breast augmentation revision, the previous breast implants are removed and new, larger breast implants are placed.

Ideal Candidates for Breast Implant Revision

Good candidates for breast implant revision are patients who would like to improve the appearance of a previous breast augmentation procedure. They should be in good overall health and not experience any health problems that would make the surgery a potential risk to wellness. It's important for these patients to know the risks and benefits involved in the surgery, and to have realistic expectations about the procedure and what it all entails.

Choosing the Right Size for the Larger Breast Implants

A patient may have decided to get larger breast implants, but now the question is how much bigger should the implants be. Sometimes a relatively subtle increase in size is ideal, while other times a patient would prefer a more dramatic increase in breast size.

During the consultation process, a patient can discuss their goals with their surgeon to determine the right breast implants to meet their needs. This consultation can also consider the implant composition, implant shape, and so forth.

The Revision Procedure and How It's Performed

Whenever possible, a breast implant revision is performed using the same incisions as the initial breast augmentation surgery. This limits scarring/prevents making new scars. Through the incisions made, the old breast implants are carefully removed. The procedure essentially proceeds much like the initial breast augmentation surgery from here on out, with the surgeon placing and positioning the new, larger breast implants.

The Results of Breast Implant Revision

The results of a breast implant revision can be quite dynamic, with patients experiencing a shapelier figure and improved self-esteem. Many of our patients who've undergone a breast implant revision are more than satisfied with the results that we achieve.
