How Long Do Dermal Filler Results Last?

By Sheryl Pilcher on June 21, 2018

Cometic dermal filler injection treatmentOver the years, there has been an increased popularity in cosmetic skin care procedures that help reduce wrinkles and improve the appearance of the skin. Cosmetic injectables have been particularly popular, with plastic surgeons using dermal fillers to conceal wrinkles and leave the face looking more youthful.

The team at our San Antonio, TX practice would like to consider the temporary benefits of dermal fillers, noting the usual lifespan of results for several of the most popular injectables. This will help you determine if a dermal filler treatment is right for you.

Effective But Temporary Wrinkle Reduction

Dermal fillers add volume to the injection site. This allows the injectables to fill in lines and wrinkles, and also add plumpness and volume to sunken-in portions of the face. Patients will look younger and more refreshed, though the outcomes of these non-surgical procedures are not permanent.

The average life of a dermal filler treatment is a few months. Repeat treatments can be performed, however, to help make the results last.

Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that’s ideal for wrinkle reduction and lip augmentation, creating a fuller and more youthful appearance. The results of Restylane® treatment tend to last about six or seven months.

Hylaform® is another type of hyaluronic acid-based filler ideal for facial lines and wrinkles. On average, Hylaform® results last for around six months, with some patients seeing benefits that last for an entire year.

How Long Does JUVÉDERM® Last?

JUVÉDERM® is a family of injectables with different uses, all of which are hyaluronic acid-based. The results tend to be longer lasting thanks to their special formulations. Injection results vary depending on the type of JUVÉDERM® used, but patients can expect outcomes that last from six months to two years.

How Long Does Perlane® Last?

Perlane® is yet another injectable that is hyaluronic acid-based, and used for facial wrinkles and augmentation. The results of Perlane® will usually last about six to nine months.

Are Dermal Fillers Right for Me?

As you can see, dermal filler injections can provide excellent results that last for a good amount of time. More permanent cosmetic solutions are available, though. Fat transfer injections will use your own body fat to enhance facial appearance, with longer lasting outcomes than dermal fillers. Facial plastic surgery may also be more ideal for major lines and wrinkles.
