Breast Lift after Weight Loss
By Sheryl Pilcher on December 14, 2018
Excess weight can make patients feel unhappy with their general physical appearance. When people lose a significant amount of weight, they deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Unfortunately, extreme weight loss can lead to its own unique aesthetic imperfections; primarily loose, saggy skin. The breasts are especially prone to this condition.
Women who have noticed a change in the shape and position of their breasts after weight loss should consider a breast lift. A breast lift restores a higher, firmer bustline that looks more youthful.
A breast lift after significant weight loss can give Dr. Sheryl Pilcher’s San Antonio, TX patients a figure that is more proportionate and more reflective of their weight loss achievements.
Breast lift surgery that follows significant weight loss is nearly the same as any other breast lift procedure. The only real difference is that Dr. Pilcher may need to use longer incisions for the procedure.
The reason for this is that there tends to be quite a lot of tissue to remove after a patient has lost weight. The more weight that is lost, the more tissue that will need to be removed to get the breasts to sit at an appropriately higher position.
Breast lift surgery is generally performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning that it should not require a hospital stay. The procedure should last for a few hours and will be performed with the patient under the effects of general anesthesia.
Each breast lift procedure is tailored to the unique needs of the patient, but most patients who have lost a great deal of weight will require tissues to be removed from the areola, as well as at the base of the breast.
Breast Lift Technique
When a significant amount of tissue will be removed, an anchor incision is used. Dr. Pilcher will make an incision around the nipple; another incision will extend vertically down the center of the breast, and then horizontally along the length of the breast crease.
Skin and tissues will be removed from the bottom of the breast to alleviate sagging. Dr. Pilcher will remove the amount of tissue that is most appropriate for each patient’s unique needs.
After tissues have been removed, the nipple will be repositioned to a higher position, and the incision will be closed. Once recovery is complete, patients will benefit from a perkier, more youthful looking bustline.
Enhancing Breast Lift Results
In many cases of weight loss, a breast lift is enough to restore the appearance of the chest. However, when a person loses weight, a lot of fat is lost from the breasts. Some patients may want to consider breast augmentation in addition to a breast lift.
Using breast implants, Dr. Pilcher can restore volume so that patients can continue to enjoy a fuller chest.
If you have lost a great deal of weight and are no longer satisfied with the appearance of your breasts, you may be an ideal candidate for a breast lift.
