Breast surgery procedures are some of the most popular cosmetic surgery options. Optimally, a breast surgery can help balance the body, creating a more shapely and proportionate figure and increasing self-confidence. At Accent Plastic Surgery, P.A., our patients appreciate the skilled and thoughtful care of female plastic surgeon Sheryl Pilcher, M.D. for their breast surgery at our San Antonio practice. Dr. Pilcher is dedicated to providing her patients with naturally beautiful results. Her San Antonio patients may benefit from several breast-related procedures, including:
Breast Enlargement (Breast Implants)
Breast augmentation is frequently sought by women with small breasts, or those who have experienced reduced breast volume or increased sagging as a result of pregnancy, aging, or weight loss. Our San Antonio area patients select breast enlargement through breast implants to create a more youthful, feminine, and proportionate appearance. For breast implants patients, Dr. Pilcher offers smooth or textured, round or anatomical shaped saline implants. She can also place the implants either below or above the pectoralis muscle and place incisions according to her patients' preferences and body type. Breast enlargement is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Most patients return to work and normal activities in one to two weeks.

The breast lift procedure is designed to help women who have experienced loss of volume or tone in their breast tissue due to aging, weight loss, or pregnancy. At her San Antonio practice, Dr. Pilcher uses the breast lift procedure to expertly raise and recontour the loose skin, reposition the nipple, and restore breast projection or perkiness, giving her patients a more shapely and youthful appearance. If the patient is also concerned about breast size, the breast lift can be combined with breast enlargement to increase fullness and create a more feminine figure. Typically performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia, a breast lift can help turn back the hands of time.
The majority of women who seek breast reduction do so to alleviate discomfort or self-consciousness. Large, overdeveloped breasts can cause back and neck pain, headaches, cuts along the shoulder from bra straps, and other physical symptoms. Large breasts can also interfere with everyday activities and draw unwanted attention. At her San Antonio practice, Dr. Pilcher performs breast reduction to remove excess breast tissue and skin and reposition the nipple to create a smaller, more proportionate breast. Breast reduction can also correct asymmetries and decrease areola size. Typically performed as an outpatient procedure with general anesthesia, a breast reduction will leave scars on the underside of the breast that are easily concealed with a bra or bathing suit. Most patients return to work and light activities in one to two weeks.
When a woman is faced with the unfortunate need for removal of her breast, most commonly for breast cancer, reconstructive surgery can help recreate a breast and restore her sense of completeness and well being. Breast reconstruction can be performed at the time of mastectomy (removal of the breast) or at a later date. The procedure generally involves several stages. First, a breast mound is formed and then later the nipple and areola can be created.
At her San Antonio practice, Dr. Pilcher can start breast reconstruction by placing a tissue expander (balloon-like implant) under the remaining breast skin and muscle to stretch it to a point where the expander can later be replaced with a permanent breast implant. The breast can also be reconstructed by transferring a woman's own tissues from another part of her body, most commonly the lower abdomen or the upper back, to her chest.
The type of breast reconstruction depends upon the patient's desires, her overall health, and the size and shape of the remaining breast to be matched. To learn more about this procedure, please contact our office.
Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
Overdeveloped breast tissue is a common concern that can cause men to feel self-conscious about their appearance. Male breast reduction is performed to correct this condition, which is known as gynecomastia, by removing excess breast tissue to create a flatter and firmer appearance. Liposuction may also be used during the procedure to remove excess fat from the chest area. Male breast reduction is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Most patients are back to work and normal activities in one to two weeks.
